Women in Business Luncheon returns to Claremore

Women in Business Luncheon returns to Claremore
Posted on 05/06/2016

Still in its inaugural year, Claremore’s Women in Business Quarterly Luncheon has already experienced tremendous success among Rogers County businesswomen. This new and popular event is made possible by a partnership between the Claremore Area Chamber of Commerce and Northeast Technology Center. The next luncheon is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 11.

“Our last quarterly luncheon was held in February, and we still weren’t really sure what to expect with it being a fairly new event,” said NTC’s Business Development Coordinator Liberty Shere, one of the event coordinators. “The Chamber did an excellent job in publicizing the event, and we were thrilled to find ourselves with nearly 80 ladies in attendance.”

The partnership between the Claremore Area Chamber of Commerce and NTC has been beneficial for both organizations as well as the local economy, and the Women in Business Quarterly Luncheon is just one more opportunity to strengthen the local community.

“We received positive feedback from our last ‘ladies only’ event, and we hope to replicate that success this month,” Shere said. “One of the goals with this event is to create an atmosphere where women can build their skillset and network with their fellow women business leaders. Add a great speaker to that mix, and the result is an event that has something for everyone. The turnout at these events indicates that this was obviously a need for our local ladies, and I am so happy that we are able to fill it.”

The guest speaker on the agenda for the May luncheon is Sunny Leigh, an 11-year veteran of 98.5 KVOO radio. Joining the “KVOO Morning Love Fest” in 2004, she has been entertainment reporter, “triviologist” and the force behind “VOO-Ventures,” where she has eaten scorpions, rolled down hills in bubble wrap, competed on nationally-televised game shows and reported from the Academy Awards Red Carpet.

Starting at a small radio station in Florida, Leigh quickly moved up to mid-market giant KVOO. She won the “Best of Broadcast” Award in 2005 for “Personality of the Year” and in 2013 was awarded, with her partners Rowdy Yates and Carly Rush, the “ACM Personalities of the Year” for medium market, as well as the CRB/Country Aircheck Award. Sunny is a founding board member of HighAim Assistance Dogs, a non-profit organization that rescues dogs from local shelters and trains them as assistance dogs for children on the autism spectrum.

“Sunny’s story carries an inspiring message – that intelligent, hardworking women can achieve their professional dreams, whatever those dreams might look like,” Shere said. “To succeed in business, you have to combine what you know with who you know to get positive results, and that’s what we hope this event will do for women in our community.”

The Claremore Women in Business Quarterly Luncheon is scheduled to take place Wednesday, May 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the NTC Claremore Campus, and is being sponsored by Zebra Nutrition. Tickets are $10 and include lunch. Those interested in purchasing a ticket may go online at www.claremore.org or call 918-341-2818.
