Hazmat Technician 24 hour and 40 hour Course Description

Prerequisite: Hazmat Awareness and Operations for 24 hour. No prerequisites for 40 hour.

This training meets the OSHA training requirements of hazardous material technician-level for emergency responders as outlined in the standard for Hazwoper standard 29CFR 1910.120(q). Hazmat technicians are individuals who respond to releases of hazardous materials for the purpose of stopping the release. This course is recommended for industrial and manufacturing personnel who are assigned to industrial emergency teams with the responsiblility of responding to hazardous material releases within their site.

Skills: Identify methods and procedures for recognizing, evaluating and controlling hazardous substances, identify guidelines to properly protect response personnel, discuss regulations and actions designed to ensure health and safety of workers, discuss fundamentals of organizational structure (ICS/NIMS) and standard operating procedures, selection, care and use of appropriate personal protective equipment. Demonstrate and use the limitations of direct-reading air-monitoring instruments. Hazard awareness, recognition and identification, hazard and risk assessment, site safety control, medical monitoring, monitoring and sampling equipment, confinement, control and cleanup, decontamination procedures, incident command, Emergency Response Planning. 

Hazmat Refresher Training Course Description

Prerequisite: Hazmat Technician

Incompliance with OSHA 29CFR 1910.120 regulations, this training is required for individuals having a role with Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response. This class serves as an annual refresher for those who have completed Hazardous Materials Waste Site Worker Training and Hazardous Materials Technician Training.

Skills: This is a hands-on course where students will don PPE and work through hazardous material release scenarios. Students will make team assignments and work in various levels of hazmat suits Level A, B, C and D. All students will work in Level A suits to demonstrate proficiency as required by OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120.
