NTC helps provide vocational training to underprivileged youth
Welch Skill Center benefits from a healthy relationship with Northeast Technology Center’s Afton Campus. The Office of Juvenile Affairs pays tuition and associated cost to NTC. In return, the students are able to travel the 17 miles from the center to NTC’s campus to attend training courses designed especially for them.

Mother and son pursue their dreams together at NTC
Northeast Technology Center’s full-time programs serve both high school and adult students, and sometimes both generations of one family at the same time. That’s evidenced by Kristen Hopkins, a mother currently enrolled in NTC’s Practical Nursing program and her son Nathaniel Shire, an Afton High School student who is also a first-year student in the Culinary Arts program at NTC Afton.

Local family makes Northeast Technology Center a way of life
Northeast Technology Center serves students from high schools, private schools and home schools across eight counties in northeast Oklahoma. A lot of kids and adults come through NTC’s programs every year to receive career and technical training. But it’s not often that four successful students are all from the same family. However, such is the case with the Hunter, Jordan, Jack and Grace Smith. The four siblings and their mother are proud to be advocates of the Oklahoma CareerTech system.

Northeast Technology Center uses new technology to increase student safety
In today’s world, school-age students don’t only practice drills for fire or tornados. School districts are also required to prepare for intruders or other emergency events, such as school shootings or bomb threats. Northeast Technology Center has taken a big step to improve its processes in such events with the help of LOKDOWN. LOKDOWN is a cloud-based communication tool used by building staff, administrators and emergency responders to communicate during an emergency.

Superintendent's Message

Greetings All,

Welcome to the 2016-17 school year! I hope everyone enjoyed a safe and fun summer. Northeast Technology Center is excited to kick off the new year. Whether you are new as a student or an employee, or returning to us from last year, I encourage you to make the most of your time at NTC. Opportunities abound!

As with most school years, we have gotten off to a great (and really busy) start. Many of us gathered in Oklahoma City on August 1 and 2, for our annual summer conference, and then on August 5, the entire district gathered at our Pryor Campus for required annual training and great team building exercises. A big thank you to all those that helped make our in-service training a success. Classes will begin on Wednesday, August 10, 2016.

Construction projects at Afton are nearly complete. The new Culinary and Diesel program areas look fantastic. The snack bar and kitchen areas have also been renovated to be much more accessible and less congested. The transformation is amazing. In addition to these major projects, our maintenance and custodial staff have been busy all summer sprucing things up at all of our locations.

We have a few new employees since our last newsletter.  We will highlight these new folks beginning with our September TechKnow.

Until then, as Milton Berle said, “If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.”

Keep up the good work!
